A Glimpse in the 2nd Grading

Time really flies so fast. One eightht of being a fourth year student is now over. Or shall I say, the Second Grading Period has already ended. And the five months I shared with my teachers and classmates was all worth it. And one of the subjects I loved this Second Grading Period is ICT. I really love this subject because I really have a great interest on computers.

In five months now of being in school, I've already learned a lot of things about our subject ICT. And our main focus in this subject is "Internet". At first, I thought to myself that I know all about the internet. But it's not. There are still a lot of things I need to discover. And with the help of our teacher in this subject, I've already known all about the instances of internet. And without this subject, I'm not posting any blogs here in blogger because I just learned blogging when our teacher taught us to. Having this subject is a big help for me. From this subject, I learned how to make my own blog, wherein I can freely express my thoughts, without having anyone to judge me and I was able to share it to my fellow students, teenagers and other people.

I know that in this subject, there will be more fun and enjoyable lessons to learn, wherein I can express myself and skills in computer. Because, ever since I was at my elementary days, I really love exploring the computer. And through this subject, I believe that I can still improve my knowledge about this aspect because I expect more with ICT.

"Intramurals"

“Intramurals”… We usually shorten this word and it becomes “Intrams.” When we talk about Intramurals, we obviously talk about all about sports. Not only sports but in all aspects of it.
This year 2014, we had celebrated Intrams in our school. Yes of course, for the athletes, this event may not b boring. But for the non-athletes, this may be. Yet we think that this celebration may be boring, so we SSG Officers made think of a way that will turn out this event amazing. We decided to have four booths. These are the; Horror Booth which is located at the 9-Legendre room, Movie Booth at the second floor of the SSG Building, Food Booth at the SSG Lobby, and the Marriage Booth at the FEC Center. Some clubs had also different booths. There is the Message Booth of the English and Affiliates Club and the Dedication Booth of the MAPEH and Cultural Arts Club. With these booths, many students had fun during the Intramurals in our school. And we officers were so proud of ourselves because the event didn't turned out that boring in the second day.

But unfortunately in the third day, all the games were cancelled because of the Typhoon Mario. And we are in Signal # 3 as said in the news.

My Teacher, My Hero

Over the years, the world's idea of a hero has changed drastically. Early on in the world, a hero was viewed as someone who brought food for their family. A hero was someone who was a provider. But for me, all of us can be heroes in our own ways.

This month of October, we are going to celebrate again the so called 'Teacher's Day'. And the theme would be as usual; "My Teacher, My Hero." Teachers may not be heroes like the superheroes having super power. But they have the skills, talents, and ability to enhance our knowledge and teach us good things. Without them, there will be no other working staffs or professionals like doctors, nurses, engineers and others. Because a teacher is the one who teaches all.

In our generation today, a few of the youth only want to become teachers because we believe that being a teacher is not that easy. But we must still give importance to our beloved teachers. And make them as precious ones.

"Immunation"

Immunation.. What ideas do enter our minds when we hear the word “immunation”? It’s hard to explain because it can’t be found in the dictionary but all I know about this is, it’s all about SCIENCE!

In the month of September, the Science Club Month Celebration is celebrated. This year 2014, the theme for the National Science Club Month is “IMMUNATION: Arming Science Clubbers with Healthful Defenses towards National Wellness.” When hearing this theme, it’s very hard to understand. But when you think and understand it deeper, you will get the point and ideas from it. The theme is according to a post on the official Facebook page of the Philippine Society of Youth Science Clubs (PSYSC). The group explained the rationale behind the theme as follows:

“It is a play on words on ammunition and immunization. We would like our science clubbers to be armed/ to be immune against diseases through imparting knowledge about disease, how they spread, etc. Our goal is not only the science clubbers that benefit from this knowledge but also their school and communities and thus leading to national wellness.”

So as we celebrate the National Science Club Month this September 2014, let us work hard hand in hand altogether so that we can aim our goal for it and what we wish for Science.

They're Not Just Someone

Over the years, the world’s notion of a hero has changed drastically. Early on, in the world, a hero was viewed as someone who brought food for their family. A hero was someone who was a provider. Later on, however, a hero became someone who did good for all of mankind. That’s when Superman and the other superheroes came in. Yes, they had super powers, but they are the ones whom people based their view of heroes on. As the world became more evolved so did the theories, a hero became more than someone who was a good provider and helped people. A hero became someone who put their life on the line to save the lives of innocent people. Fire fighters, police officers of any branch, are just few. They are also our modern-day heroes.

Men and women who fight to make sure we have freedom of speech, to make sure we get every possible chance there is to make our lives worth living. So, my modern-day heroes for me are my parents. It’s because, since the day I was not born yet, they are the ones taking care of me until now. They work for me, too. They are the ones who are giving all the things I need in order to live. They send me to school to let me study hard and have a good future someday. They let me eat nutritious foods. And most of all, they can sacrifice for my own sake. That’s why I call them as my modern-day heroes.

The view of a hero may, and it probably will change many times. But we will not, and should not forget the heroes of our past. Heroes are the ones that have lost the fight, or are still fighting, but most importantly, the ones that do not call themselves heroes and are just glad that they could help protect the innocent people. Let us not forget the heroes of our past, the present , and let us embrace the heroes of our future.

A REFLECTION: 1st Grading Period in ICT

In PNOY's 5th SONA

President Benigno "PNoy" Aquino III delivered his fifth State of the Nation Address in front of senators and congressmen in Batasan Complex, Quezon City on Monday, July 22, 2014. This year's SONA had no published theme, but the striking message he mentioned was, "The Filipino is definitely worth fighting for."

The President's penultimate SONA, which marked the opening of the 16th Congress, started at exactly 4:00PM and ended after an hour and 31 minutes. It earned 58 rounds of applause from an audience composed lawmakers, government officials, local and international media, dignitaries and other important personalities. PNoy started his speech by touching the controversial Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP) which was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. He trumpeted the benefits of the mechanism which helped 220,000 students of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) to the tune of P1.6 billion DAP funds. He then showed two video testimonials of those who benefited from TESDA scholarships. The address also enumerated the achievements of his administration over the past year, which includes good economic performance, increased budget in infrastructure, success of Public-Private Partnerships, calamity efforts, among others. PNoy also was combative against the critics of his administration, saying that they are actually against his "Boss", the people. He also had strong words against rice hoarders and corrupt officials at the Bureau of Customs. At the end of his speech, the President praised some religious leaders, local government heads, NGOs, soldiers and artists who made significant contributions. He also showed another video testimonials of 3 policewomen who arrested members of Martilyo Gang. He turned emotional when he reflected on the memory of his parents, slain Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. and the late President Corazon Aquino. And to conclude the address, he urged the Filipino people to be the key in continuing the positive transformation that his administration started.

In my opinion, this was the best SONA of President Aquino in his 4 years of being the head of the country. It was simple and concise, and his appeal to the emotions was genuine and felt by the listeners, even his critics. He was also wise not to mention the Supreme Court and the three senators who are in jail for the pork barrel scam. And it was a relief that he did not blame this time the past administration of Gloria Arroyo for the problems the country now is facing. Again, I feel bad that he skipped on tackling the Freedom of Information bill. It was one of his biggest promises in when he assumed office 2010, and with two years left in his term, he should make it a priority. The Philippines has so many problems right now, and PNoy is right in rallying his 'bosses' -the Filipino people- to help him in continuing the positive transformation his administration has started and will be doing in the next two years.

Always be Ready and Aim for Proper Nutrition!

As we all know, there is a celebration celebrated in every month of July. And this is  the Nutrition Month Celebration. Nutrition Month is the annual campaign held every July to create greater awareness on nutrition among Filipinos. The 2014 Nutrition Month Theme, "Kalamidad Paghandaan, Gutom at Malnutrisyon Agapan" focuses on nutrition on emergencies aims to provide the venue for the general public to realize the importance of preparedness during emergencies, how to respond and what recovery measures can be taken to prevent death and worsening of malnutrition of affected population groups.

We need to work together in preparing for calamities so that we can prevent hunger and malnutrition. There are so many things we can do to be prepared for these calamities. We can pack our survival bag containing flashlights, first aid kit, canned goods and other survival stuffs to be needed. We need to save enough foods that we can eat during calamities. In times of calamities, we prepared to eat canned goods, noodles and other foods that aren't easy to be spoiled. The theme of this nutrition month serves as a reminder to all of us that we should be always prepared for calamities in order to avoid any incidents that can cause to hunger. Food is a very important thing to the every individual human being. It gives us energy and nutrition so that are body can function well and can perform whatever activities we need to do. If we have a shortage on this, many of us will end up being malnourished, and things like that should not happen.

Proper nutrition is the very thing we need now. It's very important to observe a proper diet and nutrition especially when we are going to face calamities. So let us work altogether and fight hunger and malnutrition.

A Letter to the President

ILOCOS SUR NATIONAL  HIGH SCHOOL
GOMEZ ST., VIGAN CITY, ILOCOS SUR
JULY 1, 2014

His Excellency Benigno Simeon Aquino III
President Republic of the Philippines

Dear Mr. President,
Greetings! Before anything else, I want to extend my gratitude to you and give thanks for the things you did for our country.
Now, maybe you're wondering why I made a message for you since I'm just a high school student. Yes, I'm just a student but I just want you to know that even if I'm still young, I already care for our nation.
People nowadays are having problems with the cost of products this time. It's increasing and increasing the whole way in every period of time. And we buyers are being affected with this problem especially to the poor ones. But not only us, sellers are also being affected with it. Because when cost of products increases, only few of the people are going to buy because of its expensiveness.
So now, I'm asking you to do a favor for us. And it is to find a way or find ways on how to solve this problem. By the way, thank you for putting time in reading this simple message of mine. Have a great day ahead! May God bless you always, sir.

Respectfully yours,
Nathalie Q. Benzon
